Located on ACC's main campus, next to Park Arena, the Frederick T. Johnston Wellness Center is open to current, registered students, faculty, staff, and community members for a fee. The Wellness Center features:

Membership Guidelines and Facility Policies
Eligible User Groups
Access to the Wellness Center is available to the following individuals:
- Currently enrolled Alpena Community College students
- Alpena Community College faculty and staff, spouses, and dependents (minimum age 16)
- Community members with an active, paid membership (minimum age 16)
- Visitors to the community (requires payment)
Membership Access
Membership includes use of the Wellness Center and locker room facilities only.
Gymnasium Reservations
To reserve the gym for a group activity or event, contact the facilities department at 989.358.7360. A signed facilities use agreement is required, and applicable usage fees may apply.
Locker Use
Lockers located in the locker rooms are available at no charge and may be reserved each semester. Participants must provide their own locks. To reserve a locker, please visit the Wellness Center front desk. Note: Unregistered lockers are subject to lock removal, and contents may be discarded or donated.
Facility Policies
To ensure a safe environment for all users, the following policies are in effect:
Check-In
All users must check in at the front desk with a valid Student ID or Membership Card upon arrival.
Footwear
Wet or outdoor shoes are strictly prohibited in the Wellness Center. Please change into clean, dry athletic shoes in the coat room or locker room.
Equipment Sanitation
Please clean all equipment after use. Disinfectant spray bottles and towels are provided. Disinfectant wipes are also available on the back wall.
Cardio Equipment
Limit use of each piece of cardiovascular equipment to 30 minutes during peak hours.
Weight Area Courtesy
When using weight machines or free weights, please allow others to work-in between your rest periods.
Personal Belongings
Coats, bags, and keys must be stored in the coat room or locker room.
Attire
Shirts must be worn at all times. Athletic shoes are required; sandals are not permitted. Midriff-baring clothing is not allowed. Avoid wearing belts, zippers, or accessories that may damage equipment. Velcro or non-metal clasp weight belts are permitted.
Food & Drink
Food is not permitted in the Wellness Center. Water bottles are allowed and encouraged.

Community Member (Under 60, minimum age 16)
Annual - $260 Semester* - $125 Monthly - $35 Weekly -$15 Daily-$5
Senior (60+), ACC Retiree/Spouse
Annual - $155 Semester* - $65 Monthly - $20 Weekly - $15 Daily- $5
ACC Student (Full or Part-Time)
Full membership is covered by your student activity fee
ACC Employee/Spouse/Dependent (Full or Part-Time**)(Minimum age 16)
FREE
*Semester rate available for the Fall Semester, August 18 – December 22, 2025, and Spring Semester, January 2 – May 6, 2026
**Adjunct Faculty – Free use during the semester you are teaching
Wellness Center Use
The following individuals are permitted to use the Wellness Center:
- ACC employees
- Employee spouses
- Employee dependent children age 16 and older
Dependents must be at least 16 years old to use the Wellness Center.
Dependent’s age 16 and older may use the Wellness Center independently and do not need a parent present.
Individuals under the age of 16 are not permitted to use the Wellness Center at any time.
All employees, employee spouses, and dependent children age 16 and older must complete the required membership paperwork prior to using the facility.
Individuals who have not completed the required paperwork may not use the facility.
Gym Use
During Wellness Center open hours, the gym may be used by:
- ACC employees
- Employee spouses
- Employee dependent children age 16 and older
Use of the gym is permitted only when the space is not scheduled for classes, practices, events, or other college activities.
Access to the gym may be restricted or closed at any time based on facility scheduling needs.
Dependents Under Age 16
An ACC employee may supervise their dependent child under the age of 16 in the gym only, under the following conditions:
- The gym must be unscheduled and available
- The ACC employee parent must remain physically present in the gym
- The employee must provide direct supervision at all times
- Supervision may not be delegated to a spouse or another individual
Dependents under age 16 may not use the Wellness Center and may only access the gym under the supervision conditions outlined above.
Wellness Center staff reserve the right to deny or discontinue facility access if these guidelines are not followed.
