Program Eligibility
Perkins V Criteria
Students may be pre-qualified for Perkins based on information from their Admissions Application. Qualified students will receive a welcome email from Christy Gibson and will have access to the TCS section of Blackboard. If something in your life changes or if your status changes, you can contact Christy to have your information on file changed.
Individual with disabilities: A person having any of the disabilities as defined in Section 3 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including low-income youth and adults: This individual must be one of more of the following:
- Low income based on Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Pell Grant Recipient
- Other form of financial assistance
Individual preparing for a non-traditional field: occupations or fields of work, such as careers in computer science, technology, and other current and emerging high skill occupations, for which individuals from one gender comprise less than 25 percent of the individuals employed in each such occupation or field of work.
Single parent, including single pregnant women: an individual who: is unmarried or separated from a spouse, and has a minor child or children for which the parent has either custody or joint custody, or is unmarried or separated from a spouse and is pregnant.
Out-of-Workforce individual: an individual who is a displaced homemaker, as defined in section 3 of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (29 U.S.C. 3102); or an individual who has worked primarily without remuneration to care for a home and family, and for that reason has diminished marketable skills; or is a parent whose youngest dependent child will become ineligible to receive assistance under part A of title IV of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 601 et seq.) not later than 2 years after the date on which the parent applies for assistance under such title; and is unemployed or underemployed and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment.
English learner: an individual whose native language is a language other than English or who lives in a family environment or community in which a language other than English is the dominant language.
Homeless individual: a person who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence as described in section 725 of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 1143a)
Youth who are in, or have aged out of, the foster care system
Not sure if you're eligible for TCS? Stop by VLH 101 and let the TCS staff help you figure out if you qualify. The worst that could happen is that you find out you're not eligible, the best could be that you're eligible when you didn't think you were! You never know until you stop by and find out for yourself.
What programs are considered Occupational Programs?
If you think only tech programs qualify, you'd be surprised! All of the following programs are considered Occupational Programs and are eligible for TCS. Stop in VLH 101 for a full list that details which of these programs are considered nontraditional for men or women.
