Degrees & Programs
Alpena Community College offers courses that are equivalent in content and quality to freshman and sophomore courses at four-year colleges and universities. Students can complete programs of study preparing them to transfer to a four-year institution or to seek immediate employment. Those seeking personal enrichment or new or updated job skills, as well as visiting students from other colleges are welcome at ACC.ACC grants the following degrees: Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Applied Science (AAS), and Associate in General Studies (AGS), Associate in Science (AS), Bachelor of Science (BS). Non-degree programs lead to a Certificate of Achievement (C). ACC also offers a number of Cooperative Degree programs that allow students to complete specified courses at Alpena Community College and then transfer seamlessly to finish the requirements at another college.

Some may transfer to four-year institutions, but students planning to pursue a bachelor's degree should work closely with an academic advisor to plan for a successful transfer of coursework.

ACC currently offers one Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Systems Technology. This BS program consists of four years of classes that build upon existing coursework that ACC offers in utility technology and electrical maintenance, as well as the development of new courses in the 300 & 400 levels.
In addition to traditional arts and science transfer programs described under the various associate degrees, Alpena Community College has special agreements with several institutions that expand opportunities for students interested in specialized programs not available in their entirety at Alpena Community College. For these cooperative programs, students complete specified courses at Alpena Community College and then transfer seamlessly to finish the requirements at another college. It is important to plan your course selections with the appropriate contact person at Alpena Community College right from the start.
Earn Your Associate Degree From ACC Even After You Transfer to a University
Bay De Noc Community College Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Water Resource Management 1 + 1 transfer program that allows students to complete the first year of the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Water Resource Management at Alpena Community College before transferring to Bay de Noc for the second year of the program. During the second year, a four-week co-op internship is required, and students may be able to complete this work experience in the Alpena area. Delta College Basic Police Training Academy
Alpena Community College students who are eligible may enroll in the Delta Basic Police Training Academy and transfer credits from Delta to Alpena Community College to be applied to Alpena Community College’s Associate in Applied Science Law Enforcement degree program. Once enrolled in a basic training academy, all trainees must successfully complete the MCOLES Physical Fitness Program in order to graduate. Successfully completing this program is determined by a passing score on the MCOLES Exit Test.
The educational prerequisites are as follows:
- A minimum of an associate degree from an accredited college or university must have been completed; or
- Completing degree requisites through Delta College’s Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Program with Basic Police Training Option; or
- Criminal justice students from Saginaw Valley State University, Mid-Michigan Community College, and Alpena Community College may also attend Delta College’s police academy as part of their law enforcement degree; or
- MCOLES may issue an educational waiver upon completion of a military police academy and one year of service as a military police officer.

Ferris State University Bachelor of Science in Construction Management – Concrete Technology
Students graduating from Alpena Community College with a Pre-Construction Management (AS) degree can articulate their courses into the FUS Construction Management – Concrete Technology (BS) degree. Please see your Concrete Tech advisor for more information on this transfer opportunity.

Kirtland Community College Kirtland Regional Police Academy
After successful completion of the first three semesters of the Alpena Community College Criminal Justice Pre-service Associate in Applied Science Degree Program, students can opt to substitute the fourth semester's classes by completing the Kirtland Regional Police Academy at Kirtland Community College. Credits earned through successful completion of the police academy can be transferred back to fulfill the requirements of the fourth semester of the pre-service program and students can receive credit for CRJ119, CRJ222, CRJ224, and CRJ229 without taking the classes at Alpena Community College. Mid Michigan Community College Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Radiography
Alpena Community College and Mid Michigan Community College offer a cooperative program that includes program prerequisite course work required for this program to be completed at Alpena Community College. Successful graduates will be eligible to apply for the certification examination offered by the American Registry of Radiographic Technologists. Career opportunities include work in hospitals and clinics as part of the medical team specializing in the use of X-rays for diagnosis and treatment.
Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Physical Therapy Assistant
Alpena Community College and Mid Michigan Community College offer a cooperative program that includes program prerequisite course work required for the Physical Therapy Assistant program to be completed at Alpena Community College. Mid Michigan’s program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
Enrollment in these programs is limited and careful planning is required, so students seeking entry into these programs should consult with an Alpena Community College advisor, Brenda Kelley at 989.358.7311 before registering for any classes.

Western Michigan UniversityBachelor of Social Work
Alpena Community College offers an articulation agreement with Western Michigan University to provide a 2+2 agreement in Social Work. This agreement offers an affordable and practical opportunity for career development in Social Work by enabling community members to start their degree at ACC and continue their studies locally through the partnership with WMU.

University of Michigan-Flint Bachelor of Science in Nursing
UM-Flint and Alpena Community College have collaborated to offer select UM-Flint courses leading to a BSN degree, through a combination of classes on-site in Alpena, Flint, and online.
Current Alpena Community College Students may enroll as a UM-Flint Guest Student while completing coursework at Alpena Community College. A Financial Aid Consortium Agreement is in place for students who wish to utilize financial aid between Alpena Community College and UM-Flint.
Mid-Michigan Medical Center RNs may enroll as a UM-Flint Transfer Student.
